Country Club of Charleston, Charleston, SC: Site of the 50th Southern Junior Championship
CHARLESTON, SC (June 14, 2022) – 156 top-ranked junior golfers will travel to the Country Club of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina for the 50th Southern Junior Championship from June 15-17, 2022. The field is represented by over 20 states and five countries.

This marks the first year that the Country Club of Charleston has hosted the Southern Junior Championship. The Championship was first played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, winning the inaugural title. Charles Howell III of Augusta, Georgia holds the record for most-won Championships with three victories (1994-1996). Jack Roberts of Saint Marys, Georgia claimed the 2021 Championship title at Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee, Eatonon, Georgia.
The 2022 Southern Junior Championship exemptions and rankings are as follows:
● Champion receives one exemption into the 2023 Southern Amateur Championship.
● Champion receives an exemption into all future Southern Junior Championships in which he is eligible to compete.
● Champion receives Fully Exempt Status with AJGA for 2 seasons (2022 & 2023).
● 2nd-15th places receive AJGA Stars (see AJGA website).
● Players making the 36-hole cut receive Rolex AJGA Ranking points.

Format
● 54 holes of individual stroke play.
● The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes.
● The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion.
● In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee.
● Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and grouped by score after the second round for the third round.
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 15, 2022, but not his 19th birthday by June 17, 2022. Entrants cannot be a member of a college golf team or have participated in any supervised team activities.

Hosted Player lunch: 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Round 2: Tee times at 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. & 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. off #1 & #10 tee.
Field cut to low 66 scores and ties.
Field re-grouped according to score.

About the Southern Golf Association (SGA)
The Southern Golf Association, founded in 1902, is one of the oldest golf organizations and serves member clubs over a 15-state area. Recognized by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Regional Golf Associations as one of the leaders in the promotion of Amateur Golf, SGA championships are selected for inclusion as criteria for selecting players for USGA and State team competitions.
