LEXINGTON, KY (July 17, 2024) – Round One results of the 118th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by Idle Hour Country Club in Lexington, Kentucky on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (7010 Yards, par 35-35-70, 73.8/131).

Wells Williams of West Point, Mississippi fired a seven-under par 63 to claim the first round lead of the 118th Southern Amateur Championship. He had eight birdies today and currently holds a one-stroke lead over his competition. 

“I just played with some discipline targets today and let the putter get hot,” said Williams. “I like the course a lot. The greens roll really nice. I think it’s fair out there and I like the course a lot.”

Ben James of Milford, Connecticut stands solo second after carding a six-under 64 for Round One.

The following players each stand T3, carding a five-under par 65. 
  • Tobias Jonsson of Sweden
  • Jack Turner of Winter Garden, Florida
  • Joshua Ryan of Norristown, Pennsylvania
  • Ty Gingerich of Carmel, Indiana
