Wenyi Ding of China was crowned Champion of the 118th Southern Amateur at Idle Hour Country Club after posting a final round score of six-under par 64 and a 72-hole score of 18-under par 262. Ding is the first amateur golfer from China to win the Southern Amateur Champion title and the fourth international player to have his name engraved on the George W. Adair trophy.
“It was a really good experience this week,” said Ding. “I made a lot of friends here and ate a lot of good food. It’s my honor to be a champion for this tournament. I’m feeling great and I know I did a great job.”
Quinnton Croker of Australia finished second after carding a final round score of three-under par 67 and an overall score of 15-under par 265.
Lance Simpson of Knoxville, Tennessee took home bronze, posting two-under par 68 in the final round and a 14-under par 266 overall score.
