BATON ROUGE, LA (June 13, 2023) – 156 top-ranked junior golfers will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete for the 51st Southern Junior Championship title from June 14-16, 2023. The field is represented by over 25 states and five countries.

This marks the first year that Baton Rouge Country Club has hosted the Southern Junior Championship and the second time in history that Baton Rouge Country Club has hosted an outside event (first was the 100th Louisiana State Amateur Championship).
The Southern Junior Championship was first played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, winning the inaugural title. Charles Howell III of Augusta, Georgia holds the record for most-won Championships with three victories (1994-1996). Wyatt Plattner of Sarasota, Florida claimed the 2022 Championship title at the Country Club of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina.
Player Exemptions:
Players in the categories listed below are exempt into the 2023 Southern Junior Championship if otherwise eligible.
● Any previous Southern Junior or Southern Amateur Champion
● Players who finished in Top 10 and ties at the 2022 Southern Junior Championship
● Players who posted a 36-hole score at the 2022 Southern Amateur Championship
● Players ranked inside the Top 125 of Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings as of March 13, 2023
● Players ranked inside the Top 125 of Rolex AJGA Rankings as of March 13, 2023
● Players ranked inside the Top 125 of Golfweek Boys Junior Rankings as of March 13, 2023
● Players ranked inside the Top 3500 of Scratch Players World Amateur Golf Rankings as of March 13, 2023
● Players ranked inside the Top 3500 of World Amateur Golf Rankings as of March 13, 2023
● Any player extended an invitation by the SGA Junior Competition Committee

Format:
● 54 holes of individual stroke play.
● The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes.
● The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion.
● In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee
● Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and re-paired by score after the second round for the third round.
Eligibility:
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 14, 2023, but not his 19th birthday by June 16, 2023. Entrants cannot be a member of a college golf team or have participated in any supervised team activities.

7:00am-4:00pm: Player Registration in the Tavern Lounge.
7:30am-3:00pm: Practice rounds off #1 tee.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player Lunch in upstairs Ballroom.
Wednesday, June 14
Round 1: Tee times at 7:30am-9:30am & 12:30pm-2:30pm off #1 & #10 tee.
6:30am-9:00am: Hosted Player breakfast in Ballroom.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player lunch in Ballroom.
Thursday, June 15
Round 2: Tee times at 7:30am-9:30am & 12:30pm-2:30pm off #1 & #10 tee.
6:30am-9:00am: Hosted Player Breakfast in Ballroom.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player Lunch in Ballroom. Cut to low 66 scores and ties. Field re-grouped according to score.
Friday, June 16
Round 3: Tee times 7:30am-9:30am off #1 & #10 tee.
6:30am-9:00am: Hosted Player Breakfast in Ballroom.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player Lunch in Ballroom.
Awards ceremony immediately following play at clubhouse.
