Seminole Legacy Golf Club to Host 52nd Southern Junior Championship

Seminole Legacy Golf Club, Tallahassee, FL: Site of the 52nd Southern Junior Championship
TALLAHASSEE, FL (June 11, 2024) – 156 top-ranked junior golfers will travel to Tallahassee, Florida to compete for the 52nd Southern Junior Championship title from June 12-14, 2024. The field is represented by over 24 states and territories and nine countries.

This marks the first year that Seminole Legacy Golf Club has hosted the Southern Junior Championship. The Southern Junior Championship was first played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, winning the inaugural title. Charles Howell III of Augusta, Georgia holds the record for most-won Championships with three victories (1994-1996). Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Alabama claimed the 2023 Championship title at the Baton Rouge Country Club, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Player Exemptions
Players in the categories listed below are exempt into the 2024 Southern Junior Championship if otherwise eligible. 
  • Any previous Southern Junior or Southern Amateur Champion
  • Players who finished in Top 10 and ties at the 2023 Southern Junior Championship
  • Players who posted a 36-hole score at the 2023 Southern Amateur Championship
  • Players ranked inside the Top 125 of Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings as of March 5, 2024
  • Players ranked inside the Top 125 of Rolex AJGA Rankings as of March 5, 2024
  • Players ranked in World Amateur Golf Rankings by March 5, 2024
  • Any player extended an invitation by the SGA Junior Competition Committee

Format
  • 54 holes of individual stroke play.
  • The field will be cut to the low 50 players and ties after 36 holes. 
  • The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. 
  • In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee. 
  • Initial groupings will be for Rounds 1 and 2; the field will be cut and grouped by score after Round 2 for the third round. 

Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 12, 2024, but not his 19th birthday by June 14, 2024. Entrants cannot be a member of a college golf team or have participated in any supervised team activities.

Championship Schedule
Tuesday, June 11
7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: Player Registration in the Renegade Grill. 
7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: Practice rounds off #1 tee. 

Wednesday, June 12 
6:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.: Hosted Player breakfast in the Renegade Grill. 
Round 1: Tee times at 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. off #1 & #10 tee. 
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player lunch in the Renegade Grill.

Thursday, June 13  
6:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.: Hosted Player breakfast in the Renegade Grill. 
Round 2: Tee times at 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. off #1 & #10 tee. 
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted Player lunch in the Renegade Grill. 
Cut to low 50 scores and ties for final 18 holes.

Friday, June 14 
6:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.: Hosted Player Breakfast in the Renegade Grill.
Round 3: Tee times 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tee. 
11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: Hosted Player Lunch in the Renegade Grill. 
Awards ceremony immediately following play outside of the golf shop.

Exemptions & Rankings Earned: 
  • Champion receives one exemption into the 2025 Southern Amateur Championship.
  • Champion receives an exemption into all future Southern Junior Championships in which he is eligible to compete.
  • Top 5 finishers receive Fully Exempt status with AJGA for 2 seasons (2024 & 2025) if eligible to compete.
  • 1st-25th places receive AJGA stars (see AJGA.org website).
  • Players making the 36-hole cut receive Rolex AJGA Ranking points.
