OOLTEWAH, TN (July 19, 2023) – Partial Round One results of the 117th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by the The Honors Course, Ooltewah, Tennessee on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 (7527 yards, par 36-36–72, 77.3/154).

Morning tee times began promptly at 7:30 a.m. Play was suspended at 8:11 a.m. due to lightning in the area. After an eight-hour delay, play resumed at 4:14 p.m. and continued until play was suspended for the day at 8:40 p.m. due to darkness. Of 78 players within the morning wave, 21 finished their rounds before sundown.
Matthew Kress of Saratoga, California, fired a seven-under 65. With a total of eight birdies during his round, he currently holds the top of the leaderboard. He holds a two-stroke lead over his nearest competition.
Dylan Menante of Carlsbad, California and Wells Williams of West Point, Mississippi both stand T2. Menante completed his round with a five-under 67; Williams is five-under thru #14.
With 135 players left to finish Round One, play will resume tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. Afternoon tee times originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 19 will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20.

Round Two starting times will begin at 1:00 p.m. for the original morning wave and 6:15 p.m. for the afternoon wave.
● 72 holes of stroke play.
● The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes.
● The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion.
● In the event of a tie for the Championship, a “sudden-death” hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee.
● Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds; the field will be cut and grouped by score after the second round for the third round; grouped by score after the third round for the fourth round.
