Overnight leader, Thomas Morrison of Dallas, Texas, holds a one-stroke lead through 36-holes at the 48th Southern Junior Championship by posting a second round three-under 69. His conservative and relaxed strategy held his position atop the leaderboard. Overall, Morrison stands at eight-under 136 heading into the final round. “The biggest thing for me, today, was staying in the present, and that seemed to get me through the day pretty well,” Morrison said.
One-shot back is Harris Barth of Atlanta, Georgia by carding a four-under 68. To begin the day, Barth was two-back of the lead coming into the second round. Barth stands seven-under 137 going into the final round. “I have a good game plan for the course,” Barth said. “I played up near the top of the leaderboard all day. I hope that if I could do that today, I can do that tomorrow.”
Carter Loflin of Duluth, Georgia, fired the low round of the championship thus far with a six-under 66 to climb into contention with Morrison and Barth. Loflin capitalized on strong shots throughout his round carding nine birdies to find himself within striking distance at five-under 139. “In every part of my bag, today, I was doing well,” Loflin said. “The double on nine kind of hurt a little bit, because I was hoping that if I could make a birdie or par, I’d shoot 29 on the front. Everything overall flowed well today, and I feel pretty good heading into tomorrow.”
The field of 120 players was cut to the low 48 players and ties after 36 holes. The cut line fell at 151 (+7) with 52 players advancing to the final round. The final round begins on Friday at 7:15 a.m. off the #1 tee at Blessings Golf Club.
