Thomas Morrison Leads Round One of the 48th Southern Junior Championship

Fayetteville, AR (August 12, 2020) - First round results of the 48th Southern Junior Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, AR on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 (7063 yards, par 36--36--72, 75.8/152).

Thomas Morrison of Dallas, Texas challenged the difficult terrain of The Blessings by firing an impressive five-under 67 to lead round one. Morrison’s stunning card included 10 birdies, nine pars and two bogeys to open the Championship. His calm and composed mentality marked a stellar day of play. “I tried to keep it in front of me all day, playing conservatively,” Morrison said. “It worked out pretty well.”

Blazing into second is Atlanta, Georgia’s very own Harris Barth who posted a three-under 69. Barth’s day featured six birdies, nine pars and three bogeys. Demonstrating great tenacity in the first round, Barth remains two-strokes behind Morrison. Standing third place, Hudson Weibel of Dallas, Texas carded one-under 71. The Southern Junior noted two stand-out shots by Alejandro Alonso of Spring, Texas and Luke Haskew of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Proving grit and talent, each player holed an eagle on the back nine (Nos. 10 & 15), despite the challenging landscape of the course.
