Maridoe Golf Club to Host 114th Southern Amateur Championship

CARROLLTON, TX (July 14, 2020) – The most elite 156 golfers will travel from near and far to Maridoe Golf Club of Carrollton, TX for the 114th Southern Amateur Championship from July 15-18. The field is diversely represented by 33 states and six countries. The field is comprised of 140 players, ranked within the top 1000 in the world.
 
This marks the first year that Maridoe Golf Club has hosted the Southern Amateur Championship. Dating back to 1902, the iconic Southern Amateur Championship has offered players a highly competitive atmosphere.
 
Defending champion AJ Ott, of Fort Collins, Colorado, won the title in 2019 at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas.
 
“Super excited to be playing again in the Southern Amateur,” Ott said. “I feel very blessed to have another opportunity to play in this great event.”
 
The esteemed 2020 Southern Amateur Champion and runner-up, including ties, will be exempt into the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.
 
A.F. Schwartz of New Orleans, Louisiana won the inaugural Southern Amateur Championship, after defeating Percy Whitling of Nashville, Tennessee, 4 & 2. Nelson Whitney of New Orleans, Louisiana holds the record for most victories with five titles (1907-1908, 1913-1914, 1919).
