Birmingham, AL (May 13, 2020) - Due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in the coming weeks and current travel restrictions into the State of Arkansas, the Southern Golf Association has postponed the 48th Southern Junior Championship from June 17-19, 2020 to August 12-14, 2020 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Contestants currently registered in the championship whether confirmed or on the wait list, must notify the SGA office by Tuesday, May 26 if you need to withdraw from the event and receive a full entry fee refund.
“Weighing all of the factors involved with conducting an international junior golf event, it was clear that a postponement from June to August was necessary at this time,” stated Alexander G. Reynolds, President of the Southern Golf Association. “The health and well-being of our championship participants, their family members, volunteers, SGA Directors, staff, and host club membership and personnel remains our top priority.”
Notable championship updates:

Field reduced from 156 to 120 contestants.

No change to the field selection process utilizing exemptions along with Junior Golf Scoreboard and AJGA rankings.

Registration remains open with the entry closing date extended until Tuesday, June 9.

Final field announced on Thursday, June 11.

Players age eligible as of June 19 will remain eligible if they turn 19-years-old on or before August 14.

Practice round on Tuesday, August 11.

Single tee start will be utilized each day.

COVID-19 protocols and restrictions will be announced later based upon most recent guidelines set forth by the CDC, WHO and government officials in Arkansas.
