BIRMINGHAM, AL (January 27, 2020) – North Carolina State University senior Ben Shipp has been named SGA Amateur of the Month Presented by Global Golf Post for December 2019 by the Southern Golf Association (SGA).
Shipp, a native of Duluth, GA, won the South Beach International Amateur after a two-hole playoff with Oklahoma University senior Garett Reband. Both finished the championship with a two-under-par 281 total.
He is currently the 22nd ranked Amateur in the World according to the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings (SPWAR) and 70th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are determined by an international panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff.
The SGA supports amateur golf at the highest level, including staging of the storied Southern Amateur, as well as the Southern Junior Championship.
