Idle Hour Country Club to Host 47th Southern Junior Championship

LEXINGTON, KY (June 10, 2019) – 156 elite junior golfers will travel from near and far to Idle Hour Country Club in Lexington, KY for the 47th Southern Junior Championship from June 12-14. The field is diversely represented by 23 states and six countries. There are 81 players ranked among the top 1000 by Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings.
 
This marks the first time that Idle Hour Country Club has hosted the Southern Junior Championship.
 
Charlie Flynn, of Shreveport, LA, won the title in 2018 at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, LA. He is unable to defend this year since he is now playing at the collegiate level for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Men’s Golf Team.
 
The Championship was first played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree from Ft. Lauderdale, FL winning the inaugural event. Charles Howell III, of Augusta, Georgia holds the record with 3 victories (1994-1996).

Format: 54 holes of stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and grouped by score after the second round for the third round.
 
Eligibility: Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 12.4 under the USGA Handicap System, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 12, 2019, but not his 19th birthday by June 14, 2019. Note: Entrant cannot be a member of a college golf team or have participated in any supervised team activities.

Round 1: Tee times at 7:30am & 12:30pm off #1 & #10 tees.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch.
 
Thursday, June 13
Round 2: Tee times at 7:30am & 12:30pm off #1 & #10 tees.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch.
Cut to low 66 scores and ties.
Field re-grouped according to score.
 
Friday, June 14
Round 3: Tee times at 7:30am off #1 & #10 tees.
11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch.
Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard.
