BIRMINGHAM, AL (November 21, 2017) – Andrea Lee, a 19-year-old rising sophomore at Stanford University, has been named Amateur of the Month for October by the Southern Golf Association (SGA).
During Lee’s fall season at Stanford, she went back-to-back winning the Stanford Intercollegiate (207), rain-shortened Nanea Pac-12 Preview (137) and Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational (208). After three college wins and tying for third at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (212), she has been a favorite on the ANNIKA Award Watch List.
Lee, a native of Hermosa Beach, CA, experienced a successful summer prior returning to Stanford. For the second time in the last three years, Lee won the 2017 Southern California Women's Amateur Championship at San Gabriel Country Club, claiming to be the top female amateur golfer in Southern California. With a score of four-under 209, Lee comfortably won by four strokes over Beth Lillie.
Earlier in the summer, she represented the U.S. team at the 2017 World University Games at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taipei. She finished fourth with two-under 214 while Team USA captured the gold medal.
Announced on November 16, Lee accepted an invitation from the USGA's International Team Selection Committee to participate in a practice session in advance of the 2018 Curtis Cup Match. Lee represented the United States in 2016, when the Curtis Cup took place at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland.
Lee is currently the number five ranked women’s amateur in the World by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
