PINEHURST, NC – Final results of the 111th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by The Country Club of North Carolina (Dogwood) in Pinehurst, NC on Saturday, July 22, 2017 (7301 yards, par 36-36—72, 74.9/135).
15-year-old Karl Vilips of Australia earned his first major amateur championship title firing a five-under par 67 leading to a one shot victory over Stoney Crouch of Mount Juliet, TN at the 111th Southern Amateur Championship played at The Country Club of North Carolina. His round of 67 was the low round of the day.
Vilips, a 2020 Stanford commit, finished the 72-hole championship at 273 (-15) that fell just shy of Webb Simpson’s record at CCNC of 272 posted in 2007. This is the seventh time that CCNC has played host to the Southern Amateur Championship (1971, 1979, 1985, 1990, 1996, 2007, 2017).
Defending champion, Jimmy Stanger of Tampa, FL carded a final round 76 (289) to finish T37.
