BIRMINGHAM, AL (December 12, 2016) – Tigers sophomore, Sam Burns, has been named Amateur of the Month (November) by the Southern Golf Association (SGA).
Burns had a significant month, with his win at the 2016 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, closing with 5-under 66 to finish 12-under and ahead by three-strokes. His victory at the All-American Golf Classic followed by finishing in second with a career-low score of 13-under par 200.
Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are determined by a blue-ribbon national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin- Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Lee McCoy & Aaron Wise.
The SGA supports amateur golf at the highest level, including staging of the storied Southern Amateur, as well as the Southern Junior Championship.
