Connor Howe Leads Round Two of the 115th Southern Amateur Championship Presented By STITCH® Golf
WEST POINT, MS (July 15, 2021) - Second round results of the 115th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS, on Thursday, July 15, 2021 (7088 yards, par 35-36-71, 74.7/144). Connor Howe of Ogden, UT fired an impressive nine-under-par 62 to lead round two of the 115th Southern Amateur Championship. Georgia Tech’s Howe stands 12-under 130 for the tournament.
“I had a pretty good day,” Howe said. “I missed some opportunities out there, but I just started making some birdies and caught fire on the back nine. Lo and behold, it all came together as a pretty good round.”
Former Champion, Karl Vilips of Lathlain, AUS carded four-under 67 to stand T2 on the leaderboard alongside Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown, OH.
Moldovan carded three-under 68 for the day. Both Vilips and Moldovan are 10-under 132 for the tournament.
Vilips was crowned Champion of the 111th Southern Amateur Championship in 2017.
“Today was a lot better off the tee than yesterday,” Vilips said. “I hit it solid from tee to green and tried to keep myself as cool as I could under the heat.”
Also in contention, the following three players remain nine-under 133 to stand T4:

● 65 players broke par
● Easiest Hole: #15 -526-yard par 5 (4.66)
● Hardest Hole: #2 -513-yard par 4 (4.49)
The cut line fell at one-under 139 and 70 players will advance to round three.
Round three begins on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. off #1 and #10 tees at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS.
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries.
